Products with Geographical
Indication from Bangladesh

Products with a geographic indication (GI) are valuable to a state. A state acquires ownership of a product via acknowledgment, which creates the conditions for economic growth and increased exposure on a national and worldwide scale. To award GI accreditation and certification, Bangladesh has a distinct government body called "Department of Patents, Designs and Trademarks." With Jamdani's GI recognition on November 17, 2016, the nation's GI registration procedure became formally established. Products having unique characteristics that are unique to a particular geographic region of a country owing to the soil, water, weather, certain technical abilities, or a long history within the local culture are given GI recognition. 14 goods from Bangladesh have received GI recognition thus far and have these characteristics. And many more people are currently receiving notice.

A product is recognized as a geographical indicator product of a country if the environment, climate, and culture of that nation contribute to its manufacture. Gaining GI recognition for a product makes it simpler to market it internationally. The costs of these goods vary. The ability and legal protection to economically manufacture the good are granted to that location. According to the regulations of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Department of Patents, Designs, and Trademarks (DPDT) under the Ministry of Industry of Bangladesh has issued this recognition and certification.
